Voice of experience RC. We've got them thick along the coast and mostly diamondbacks around here. They don't have to bite you to make you hurt yourself. I've dislocated a few hog hunts from rattler strikes. TP&W released Indigos here to control rattlesnakes.

Let me Make this very simple ! I hate Snakes ,chiggers , ticks etc!! I will be happy with this kind of weather and hunting only Moose and Bear for the rest of my life ( about a1/4 tank left) rather than put up with all them creepy ,crawler critters.    :goldtooth:    :biglaugh:

Had a friend of mine, wife got bitten by a copper head this past weekend. Last I heard she was doing o.k.  Makes me want to move to Hawaii this time of year.

Unless rattlers get too close to the house i leave em alone.  May take a couple for a bow this year.

I see 6 or 8 rattlers a year aand have never even had a close call.  Now a copperhead or cotton mouth is different.  Our little copperheads will pop you quick.  And a cotton mouth is an evil creature that will follow you home.  All cotton mouths must die, the stinkin vermin!

That must be a state law in NY ... I have kept a few "Hot" snakes in the past and there was no state laws dictating what you could keep as long as it wasn't listed.

I kept a copperhead for about a year, she tamed down so much (she never was that aggresive anyway) I could reach into the cage and rub her on the tail.

I was marking some property lines for a timber sale a few years ago (with my snake leggins on) and I was making my way through some thick stuff while keeping my compass bearing when I stepped on something that felt like a waterbaloon.  I paused for a second becasue it felt kind of weird (I didn't know what it was and my mind was trying to figure out what could make my foot squish around like that).  I took another step off of it and tunred and looked and I had dead centered a 4 foot timber rattler.... and there was another one laying right beside it (mating season I suppose).  My heart rate got up when I realized what I had done, but the two snakes never rattled or acted aggressive, they quickly retreated to thicker brush off the property line.

Stepped square in the middle of a diamondback around dark thirty. It does feel just like a water balloon. Your mind works like a supercomputer discharging sights, smells, and noises. Took less than a second to wind up in a mesquite tree. They only bite for food or to protect themselves. They do good things. Thumbs up.

Rattler is good eating if you fry them up right.

Human snakes are the worst kind. Rather deal with a copperhead anyday. IMHO

There are a few bowyers out salivating at the thought of getting they’re hands on those!!!

I have a bow coming next week that will be wearing some of those.

For the record I like snakes…but I’ve never heard the rattle of one and not known where it was.  Never heard the rattle of one for that matter either.

On the ranch I used to work at in Montana we found a half-a-dozen or more western Dbacks without rattles. Now that's scary when you don't even get a warning.

I leave em alone most times. Especially when I'm in their territory. If they're intruding in my space that's a different story.
Unclewhit, could they have been gophersnakes? Lots of them around in our area, and they do resemble a diamondback. No mistaking that rattle of a d'back. Gets ones attention real quick.

I've heard of timber rattlers without rattles being called "pilot snakes". Don't know why...
