Great Northern Critter Gitter Special??
« on: April 08, 2009, 06:48:00 PM »
Well, I done something I said I would never do again....Ordered a bow without shooting one first.

I ordered a Great Northern Critter Gitter Special. 60", 56# @ 29". Shedua colored dymondwood riser (Indexed) and dark stain hickory limbs.

I need to know from you fellas that own/owned/shot one.....what can I expect? I know it's all personal preference, but entertain me!   :)  Give me a product review! Good or bad.

After shooting/buying/trading a pile of bows from recurves to radical r/d hybrids...I have came to the likings of a shorter (60") slight/mild reflex/deflex longbows, for what I do. They are compact like the hybrids, but seem way more forgiving and quieter...to me. Maybe a little slower, but well behaved. This is my opinion from my experience.

Thanks for any input....Mike   :campfire:    :coffee:

IIRC, Paul Brunner, Dwarf, used the short Critter Gitter Special quite a bit some years ago. I'd imagine he'd give you some feedback if you contact him.

I've never used the short Special, but I've used several of the longer Critter Gitters for near as long as they've been built. The longer ones are not speed demons, but they make fantastic hunting bows with the Jack Knife folding hinge. I've always liked the small torque free handles. The one I've kept the longest is Osage with a Cocobolo riser and the Jack Knife. Darn tough wilderness bow that has taken much game.

Best,
DB

Got a critter gitter with the jacknife Mike. Not the special but I am sure they are very similar. The special should have real good cast for that design in that length and at your draw.

Mine is a great shooter and very smooth to draw and whisper quiet.Feels great when you loose an arrow too.Very solid feel.Great hunting bow.I really like it.

You might consider the jacknife. Its the bomb.I had 2 Superghosts and think the critter gitter is every bit as good to me.

I have a 58" CG Special, all osage with copperhead skins and moose antler tips. Very classy little bow. I don't shoot it hardly at all, but it was so cute I couldn't resist.

Thanks for the info guys.

Steelhead, I just might get a jack knife model if I like the one piece. Good excuse for a new bow later!   :D

Foxbo, thanks for the pictures. Those copperhead skins really looks great combined with osage. Very nice!

Anyone have a picture of one with the indexed riser? Is the grip a little bigger in the palm with the index riser?

Mike

I am sold on them. I have 3 62" critter getter jackknifes, a critter getter special 56" jackknife and a bush bow.   I wish I still had my 1 piece 58" critter getter special. It is a perfect white tail bow. The critter getters are almost as quiet as my Howard Hill bows and a little faster.  Parr

I got a 60" hickory limb face and cocobolo riser.  60#@28" with jacknife.  Its my goto bow for sure.  Got a Horne 3 peice brush bow and a black widow psa that dont see much use now.  Just love it.  Sure you will also.  Jacknife hinge simply too awsome to even began to explain..

I'll be finding out shortly.  Gonna order up one in 60" myself. Now that I've tried several different designs, I've come to prefer the shorter, 60" mild r/d longbows too.
