Zwickey 4-blade users
« on: April 13, 2009, 07:20:00 PM »
I have a question for Zwickey 4-blade users.  First off, I am NOT    "[dntthnk]"   trying to start a 2-blade Vs 4-blade debate.  I shoot around 45 lbs (at my draw length) with 500 grain arrows at whitetail deer mostly from treestands.  I recently purchased some Delta 4-blades from ****.  When I got'em and started looking at them, WHEW; them some BIG PUPPIES!  I wonder now if I have enough bow to reliably push them out the other side.  I have read some older posts but not many Tradgangers (or so it seems) use them at my draw weight.  Would I be better off with trading them for some 2-blade Deltas or 4-blade Eskimos?  I really would like to hear from some folks that have used them at my draw weight.  Thanks for your replies.

I don't have any experience with deer with a 45# bow...but I've shot Zs forever and if it were ME, I'd shoot the eskimo 4 blades or the Delta 2 blades over the Delta 4 blades with that weight.

Let me ask you another question?...how many did you buy?...are they mounted yet?

I agree with Terry. I have used the 4 blade eskimo for years with great results. Bob

The zwickey 4 blade  no mercy would be a vey good choice imo.  The are built very well and will work good with your bow weight.

Look in the archived 'how to forum' - I did a clip there.....they are a cinch to sharpen.

Also, now(since this thread was started in 1009) there's the No Mercy 4 blade....they almost make the Eskimos obsolete....better angle of attack.

I have to agree.  I tried the Delta's but seemed to have some planing issues.  I shoot 70# recurve, so the bow was not a problem.  I went to the 4 and also 2 bld Eskimo and found them to be much better.  When I was in B.C. I took a grizzly, moose and caribou with the Zwikee Eskimo and they performed well.  Also many deer, elk and mountain lion with the same heads.

The Zwickey 4 blades are my favorite 4 blades, I like the bleeder arrangement, I find them much sturdier and hassle free than "removable" bleeder blades.

I put an Eskimo 4 blade through a deer shoulder blade once and the head survived entirely intact.

I also find the 4 blades seem to fly better if the "gap" in the ferrule is entirely filled with taper or an X-Long adapter.  The Delta flies well for a head of it's size but due to surface area simply can't match the forgiveness of the Eskimo.

I think Terrys gonna have 6 more Zs...

That is my all time favorite head, but I don't know about the low weight bow with that head.  I think you would be crossing the line of too much cut for your setup.

I have killed several deer with 4 blade zwickey heads out of 45 and 46 pound bows. All my shots were inside of 25 yards and have had several pass through s with dead deer at the end of the trailing job. Sharp heads and smart shots are the key.
