On July 5th, John Jeanneney passed away at his home in Berne, NY, he was 86 years old. John was the leading authority on training and using dogs to trail wounded deer when all other means failed. He literally wrote the book, actually 3 on the subject, and personally recovered over 1,000 deer for hunters. He was instrumental in getting the legislation passed that allowed the use of tracking dogs to aid in the recovery of wounded deer.
I personally know several people who trained their dogs with him, used his practices and techniques, and got their dogs from his kennel. He was also an English professor at Hofstra University for 30 years, and was inducted into the NYS Outdoor Hall of Fame for his contribution to the hunting community. May God rest his soul.
