Who shoots arrows with 400 gr or more up front?

Im about to start tuning some beman 340s out of my 65 lb bow. My broadhead setup that I wanna use is 190 grain griz with 125 grain steel insert and 100 grain brass insert, which is 415 gr up front. Is that too much? How do you tune arrows when the heaviest field point I have is 250 and brass insert is 100 giving me 350. How do I make up the other 65 grains to match my broadhead set up? Any help is very much appreciated.

Wow..Havent tried that much up front yet. I am up to 360 up front, and am happy with that setup out of my longbows

I would get some 190 gr. glue-on points and put them on the steel adapters just like the grizzly.I bought 190 gr. glue-on points from 3Rivers,but I put mine on some wood arrows.

Gilbert as you go up in front weight 65gr is a lot smaller % of the total, however you have a few options.

There are 300gr screw in field pt.+ your 100gr. brass insert=400
or 190 field pt.+125insert +100 brass=415

Gilbert,

Bob Morrison and Braveheart Archery have the 300 grain field tips. I wouldn't worry about the 15 grains making much difference in the tuning process. At some point you will have to shoot your broadheads anyway, so when it looks like you are good with the 300 grain field tips, just screw in the broadheads instead and do your final tuning if there is any difference noticed. I doubt you will see anything with just a 5% point weight increase.

I use AD Trads with a 100grain brass insert, 100grain steel adapter, and a 190Grizzly which weighs around  175grains when sharp. That gives me a total of 375grains up front.

I can replace the 175grain Grizzly with a 160 field point and it still works well. I can also replace the Grizzly with a Tiger Claw small game head which weighs 145grains and it still works well. I can remove the machine screw and claw cap from the Tiger Claw which gives me an 85grain blunt. Onto this I press on a modified 100 grain Bludgeon that I've cut notches around the face which ends up weighing 90grains. Installed onto the Tiger Claw it weighs exactly 175grains which is the exact same weight as a sharp 190Grizzly. I use this for rabbits, stumping, and such. All combination fly well and are accurate enough for me to hit tennis balls with my 67pound longbow:)

keep us posted i would love to see how ur tuning comes out, ur setup is close to mine. I been wanting to increase my point weight in that range as well, i bet you have to get the 300s spine
