Newbee looking for pactice
« on: April 23, 2009, 11:27:00 AM »
Got my first bow last month.  Thanks MigraBill.  Anyone know of any clubs in the Frederickburg, VA area.  Can't wait to get started.  I'm looking to practice/tips/advice.

Thanks

Check with the Virginia affiliate of the NFAA. (National Field Archery Association)

There are a number of clubs in Virginia, but I don't know much about them.

Also check with Gander Mountain.  I stopped by there about a year ago and they seemed a little more knowledgeable than most of the big box stores.

Also, if you want a good start, contact Ruth Row. She runs The Archery Program at Bull Run, Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority.  She teaches Olympic style, but the fundamentals of shooting are the same.

Good luck,
Allen

I think Killie can recommend something in that area.  Post in the   Virginia Section   as well.

Their website is down currently but there's a big shoot coming up in Baltimore area:

I just got off the phone with SalukiJim. Seems he took his "new" Bear '72 Grizzly to Gander MTN last night and shot with some experienced trad shooters.

Jim is a quality guy and I feel very fortunate to have been the one to gift him his first trad bow. I hope the hobby is as exciting to him as it has been to me.

Thanks again MigraBill.  I really enjoyed taking the 72 grizzly to the gander mtn.  Can't believe I didn't take up trad. archery years ago!  I got the bug now.  Hope to pick up some tips and stuff at the 2009 Baltimore Bowmen
Traditional Classic.
