Heavy Spined Wood!

I just picked up a doz. 100# spined shafts. If anyone is looking for heavy spined shafts get a hold of Surewood Shafts! Their douglas fir shafts are great. I've tried a lot of different types of shafts. Nothing any better than these. Unlike other heavy shafts these are easy to straighten. But really they come so straight you do very little straightening. These weigh about 580gr. at 32" and are 11/32"! Obviously they make lighter shafts. They come with a really nicely sanded smooth surface.

Check the spine on them and make sure. I was told once by a guy who was in the business for over 40 years that to get a dozen wood shafts that truly spined 100#s and were 11/32nds. he would have to go thru a few thousand shafts and than it would be still be tough. Shawn

The Douglas fir shafts I get from Surewood Shafts are the only ones that are both stiff-enough and heavy enough, aside from Grizzlystik carbons, for my 80# Silvertip. They sure are working a treat for me.

Shawn, you are right. But they have a bin that when they come by some of these brutes they set them aside. It obviously depends on the shaft material as to how many heavy spined shafts you will find too. That is why I posted this thread. I know how rare these are especially in today's world of shafts. I'll check them tonight and let you know.
Ben so you hunt water buffalo down your way? Do you use the Surewoods for hunting them? I just discovered these shafts this year and have not had a chance to send one through an animal yet. One of the partners of Surewood Shafts is a member of the local trad. archery club here in town. He has been a great guy to get to know.

Ok, checked them and they are all within 1# to 2# of 95# spine weight on my spine gauge and they run from 520-528gr. I don't know where I came up with 580#....that obviously was a mistake on my part. Can't wait to make some arrows out of them! I'm figuring about 250gr tips at 30" for my 55#@28" cut to center Blacktail recurve. Should be about a 700+gr finished arrow.

Nope, no buffalo. But I did get a camel. And, the arrow did a pretty good job on a 50lb piggy-wiggy (and a couple of bigger ones).
