Fast flight questions
« on: April 28, 2009, 09:39:00 AM »
I was wondering if there is much difference between fast flight, fast flight plus, TS-1, 8125 etc.  I know with speed, you get noise, just wondering if there can be a significant difference in arrow prefromance.  My 66 inch longbow with fast flight over b-50 is about 6 fps faster with not much difference in noise, but it is quieter with the b-50.

Each of the low-stretch materials have their own creep and stretch rates and each feels, and sounds, different at the shot.  On every bow I've tried it on, the original FF feels and sounds harsh.  FF+ is a bit better.  TS-1 and D97 are much better; I went with spools of TS-1 because it feels a little softer at the shot.

I've yet to shoot a longbow, glass-lam or selfbow, that was quieter with B50.  The pitch of any noise made is higher with the low-stretch strings, but the decible level is lower.

I'd shoot the low-stretch strings on my bows even if they were slower!

There are alot of different strings out there,I like D97 for my bows that can handle the newer materials.D97 is about the lowest priced string compared to the other ones. And you can get D97 in 375 ft rolls, the new 1/8# spools and 1/4# spools.I find D97 quieter then the old type FF,and B50 is not always quieter. In some bows B50 can cause increased handshock.I shoot D97 not for any speed increase but for the feel of the shot, the bow feels more solid and not springy.A 12 strand D97 is strong enough for upto a 100# bow,so I make mine all the same for the same nock fit.But I only shoot B50 on my older recurves.

A Google search of D97 string netted a bunch of hits.
