First longbow gobbler...

... feathers.
I had two nice toms come right to my full strut decoy at 4:35 on Thursday afternoon. I was in a Primos GroundMax blind but one of them got nervous just as I drew my 62" HH Badger. I still had an easy shot as they were walking away at 11 yards, but I only grazed a few feathers off my target. Both toms just walked away wondering what had spooked them, so no harm was done. I guess I should be practicing more. I gathered up the feathers just in case they're all I get this season with my bow. LOL. I've been getting close (under 25 yards) to gobblers for the past five years and killing them with a 20ga. flintlock, but this was my first arrow ever shot at a turkey. The funny thing is I don't feel bad about the miss (although of course getting a bird would have been way better!). I was excited to have a chance and the encounter makes me even more determined to get one with my bow. Maybe next time!

You have come closer than me so far this spring. I have yet to draw the bow in the direction of a turkey. Those feathers probably won't eat that good, however. :D

I feel your pain, I missed one a few Thursdays ago. I've killed them while deer hunting but never in the spring out of a blind. Great experience and better luck next time.

It is the misses that keep the fire burning for me! Last year, I missed my second trad shot at a turkey...8 yards...stuck it in a tree atleast 2 feet from him, called him back and got him(jake)! 30 min. before that, I shot over the back of a 12 incher! You'll get him next time!

I had 5 years and only one feather before I turned the tables on them this year. Stay hooked it will happen.
