refilling thermacells gas bottles
« on: May 03, 2009, 09:39:00 PM »
i figured i would share the knowledge so that more people can try to save money.  if i can ever find the butane, i will do it as well.

"When it is empty take a pair of needle nose pliers, pull the brass out the top of the cylinder(try not to ruin the o-ring),under that you will see a solid white piece of material, poke a hole with a needle in it.Push the brass back in.Get one of those KING butane cans with the different tips.Find the tip that fits in the brass.Cut a very small v-notch in the tip of that.Place the butane cartridge on a table, and insert tip of KING butane can in it.Press down. You can now re-fill your bottle any time."

they make them marketed for the hair straighteners under the name Conair and a cheaper than the ones marketed for thermacell.  the problem is finding the mats in a refill kit seperate from the cylinders.  seems like all the refill kits have x number of mats and x number of cylinders.

Jeez guys, one of those little butane canisters is equal to a quarter stick of dynamite.

I'll pass.

I'm only payin' 2.50 a cannister at the Wal-dash-Mart in the hair dryer section.

I like the idea of not throwing a bunch of cannisters in the trash, but I like the way they blow up in a campfire anyway!

Buy the big box with 4 cylinders and a bunch of strips at 20 bucks...then get more cylinders in the hair dryer section of your favorite store.

I looked closely at this...it's bending over dollars to pick up pennies and like Biggie says...whoooeeee those babies will 'splode' all over yo behind if you mess up!

In S. Louisiana been fighting them things since I was born.I think they are cheap enough to be able to sit on a stand, around a campfire and not have to spray with that sticky stuff only wish they would have been invented years ago.Kip

Hopefully we won't all die from cancer in a few years!

I probably suck more of those fumes than the average hunter.  I'd say 60-70 days a year!!

It's just like smokin' dope, Biggie...it comes from crysanthemum flowers!

The alternative is getting something like equine encephalomyelitis or West Nile, and I think I'd rather have the problems from the smokey pads than that.

Ray,

...it comes from crysanthemum flowers!

Around here we just call them posies or flarz. Can't pronounce krisanithenom.

Hey, you need a syrup refill yet?  :)
