SEMO hog hunters & all hog hunters
« on: March 22, 2007, 12:44:00 PM »
I would like any of you guys that came to the SEMO hog hunt to go look at the politics page about what the Missouri Department of Conservation is considering.

I would also encourage anyone that likes to hog hunt to go have a look and voice your opinion.

thanks

I voiced my opinion last weekend at the CFM meetings with several MDC people present.

It is an approach to eradication of feral hogs and I for one do not want any more in the State. Anyone turning hogs loose (Yes they have pictures of this happening) needs to be fined or worse. It seems they are being released on public lands and the idea being if you can't hunt them then they would not be released.
I enjoy hunting but the risk of disease and the damage to the areas that the hogs cause may lead to a major cost to eradicate them.

I hope they don't make it illegal to hunt them but it is not looking good right now.

When and where have you had a bonafied outbreak of any kind? Who or what agency did the result come from? This is a domino issue. It started with OK TX Big ranchers who want them gone. Beleive it or not this is a natural resource. The government backed by big money is going to go through and make statements like epedemic and disease to come in and shoot any, every and all ferals. This is whether it's a game ranch or other. It's selfish, one sided and typical. They have already used it as an excuse in Virginia, and if you read articles in OK and TX papers you will find excuses as mentioned above. Oh, and the state says they go in a test those hundreds of hogs they shoot by a helicopter gunner and see if there is a carrier of this ??disease that gives them support to kill. What about the perfect hogs that they leave lay?????. This is just a start on the states agenda. So where is the quarentine? I haven't read or been called about one. But they sure can continue to kill and leave lay perfectly good hogs when people here in each state can use the meat for the less fortunate. I would be looking at the state and wanting to know why they aren't working for and with the people that voted them to office, ,than against them. The state can tag the ferals and track them the state can open up hunting specific to the ferals, the state can have the income from residence and non-residence hunters to hunt ferals other than spending money for eradication and the most wasteful of all, the  rotting ferals that they left. Which in itself over a period of time and circumstances: rabies and predator population explosion. Are they(state) going to continue to hire exterminators of perfectly legal game, restricting legal hunters from taking game they should/are entitled to. Call your state officials that have a hand in the agricutral and Fish and Game department. "Who" voted on the expenditure of funds to use aerial gunning. "Who" voted on the restrictions to hunting day/night, baiting, spotlighting.

Tom D,

SHow me scientific data of disease, spreading of disease to domestic wildlife that CAN be proven came from feral hogs!!!! Or spreading of disease to humans.....

NOT just there are feral hogs in the area....BINGO blame it on feral hogs!!!

I want to see data on those "diesases" in areas with no feral hogs....I want to compare the percentages of disease in the feral areas VS nonferal.....  SCIENTIFIC DATA with documented proof!!!!

I think it is a BUNCH of bull outlawing hunting to discourage turning hogs loose.....it is bull to use aerial gunning and MILLIONS of tax dollars to "eradicate" an established population of animals that has never been "eraditcated" effectivly in the US to my knowledge!

I agree that people importing them should be fined and have licenses taken away.

thanks

Folks this discussion needs to take place in the thread in the Hunting Issues and Politics Forum. This thread will likely be pulled if it does more than tell people to go take a look.
