I would think starting with full length and working your way down is going to get you the best results. That way you can play with length and tip weight to find that sweet combo.

What kind of arrows are you shooting?  If your shooting carbon it's hard to cut unless you have a high speed saw.  With so many tip weight options it's easy to pick a length.

todd, im shotting cx heitage 150s im getting good flight they are cut to 29" 125 points im thinking of getting a costum bow in the future and was just wondering about tunen different arrows thinking a i might go wood not sure its all in the future

Start from full length,you can always take off but never add shaft.

Wood comes in a much larger selection of spines than carbon so it's easier to select a spine that matches your bow weight at your draw, etc. that won't require much tuning regardless of how you do it.

For me I never just cut an arrow to length without shooting it at full length first,especially carbon arrows.

I have all my arrows cut to lenght(28") and tune with point weight. I just like to always see the same lenght arrow. I have a supply of 600/500/400's and with the wide range of fp's and adapters I can get my fp's and broadheads shooting together.
