Bison Gear Material ???
« on: May 05, 2009, 09:33:00 PM »
I am looking at buying a Bison Gear first trip explorer and am wondering which type of material to get?  I would like some pros and cons of the wool versus bucksuede.  Thanks for the input!!

Wool is heavier than the Bucksuede, if you are going to hump the boonies I would do the bucksuede. I have 2 of his packs in wool, my son one in Bucksuede. I'm just finishing a week in the back country of Idaho and love my wool pack, but next time it will be Bucksuede. And no my 2 packs in wool are not for sale I still use them for whitetailing at home. You can't beat Bison gear Ang is the best of the best in the pack business.

Long as I can hike the hills and walk among the trees
I keep on trying
My goals are high but I don't care
The fun is in the getting there, it justifies the end
So try, try again

I have one in wool, my brother has one in bucksuede.  I live out west, my brother in the midwest.  The wool is absolutely silent, even when cold, but picks up cockleburrs and other seeds with hooks.  The bucksuede is a little louder, especially when it gets cold, but won't pick up seeds.  Whichever you go with, you'll love it, BG makes awesome packs!

Get one in each(Ang will love that)!

I've got a FT in buck & a LR in wool.  I love them both but use the LR around here.  Wool IS quiet & I don't notice the extra weight.  They're great packs.

Love my Lost River in wool. If you are hunting warmer climates majority of time wool gets little hot. Works good up here, not so good in Texas! Pick bucksuede for warmer climate. Just tell Angelo what climate your hunting in and he will tell you what is best.

Here's a photo of the wool Bisongear "Elk Pack" that Angie custom built for me.  It's been with me from 12,000' in Colorado to the KY wetlands. Top-notch in every way!

A comment on the wool.  I prefer it since I wear the pack a lot while still hunting in a variety of terrain and temperatures.  It's quiet and very durable.
