OK all you noggin freaks....

I ordered a new noggin cover after reading the recent thread.  I ordered a Filson Tin Packer in oil cloth to hunt in this fall.

My fears were realized, today.  String touches the brim when I come to full draw.

OK...so she's a huntin' cap.  I don't mind finding a way to secure the right side up (I'm a righty) to the main part of the cap, but I don't know the best way to do it.  I'm also not opposed to trimming it, but I see no reason to if I can secure it "up".

Any ideas?  Install a button snap?  Or...will velcro possibly hold it?

With my D shaped Mohawk (64") it's touching.  Will it touch more or less with a 60" recurve?

Never thought finding a huntin hat would be this difficult!   :D

If it has a wired brim, just bend the wire.
Or, go with needle and thread.
Another option is: go to a hat shop or western store and ask if they have a steamer to help reshape it.
Oil cloth should take a roll if you "train" it, over time.

If I were you I'd buy a new 56" custom recurve.  The brim should fit just fine

I do one of two things with a fedora type hat.  I will snap the brim up when on stand so I'm ready to shoot if something shows up or I'll just tilt it back a tad to give me clearance when I'm on stand.

If I had to take a quick shot walking in or out the brim wouldn't stop my draw due to adrenalin rush.

Put on the tea pot and steam the brim in the spot you want to bend for a few seconds and work on it until it fits.

I just got an oilskin hat from Cabela's a couple of weeks ago.I have always had a thing about touching the brim with my string also, but this one gives very easily and is causing no problems with shooting or distraction.If you want more info on it pm me.     Ben

I bought a narrower brim hat and have not had a problem. A brim wider than 2" or so does cause me great distraction. I would go with needle & thread to keep the brim turned up, rather than trying to re-shape the brim. I had other hat brims that would not stay out of my way after being re-shaped and then getting wet in the rain.

I can't wear anythign as stiff as oilskin jsut for this reason.  I go with felt and ignore the touch and bend of the brim.

I shoot with my filson on. What I did to stop the string from touching was I bent the brim of the hat down in the front and back, took cre of the problem and looks good. The hat,not me

I use a simple little hat pin that is non reflective on one of the hats that I wear.

The brim on Filson packers is pretty easy to train into a more curled position.  Just take a dowel or similar object to roll the brim around.  A little heat from a blow dryer helps too.

I just tip mine back a bit on my head when I shoot.  I've done it for so long I do it subconsciously now.
