zebco bowfishing question
« on: May 16, 2009, 12:27:00 AM »
what is the biggest species you would target with a zebco/safety slide setup? i'm aussie and don't know how big your fish species are so how much weight?

got a big hand line setup for big sharks but i'm looking at the zebco option for smaller fish species and stingrays.

Clint, They are landing large Gator Gar 200 lbs. plus on spinning reels all the time. I'm sure boats assist in this a lot.

Line choice is a big factor on reel capacity. You can shoot the braided FF string on them. I'll send You a P.M. of a web-site to check out.

The Zebco 808 is commonly used for bowfishing. There is a a sub-model called the bowfisher that handles all fish well. Line choice is the main failure in spinning reels due to sheering of the pick up pins. I personally use FF in the #130 range and set the drag light enough to keep the bow from being ripped from my hand.

sounds like a spincast will handle everything i want it to.

I think you will want to use the FF or Power Pro type lines with the spincast reel.  Dacron is not going to allow adequate line capacity.  200 lb FF has been the spincast standard for quite a while and there is now a 150 lb.  INBF's 130 would work well, too, and probably shoot better than the 200.
