quiver foam source?
« on: May 21, 2009, 09:49:00 PM »
I'm having a quiver made in the leather shop at the prison I work at. I need a source for the foam in the broadhead cup before they build it so they can shape the leather to it.

I use the exercise stairsteppers that are made out of dense foam. Usually can pick them up at goodwills or second hand stores for a buck. Then I just cut the shape I want. Or you can get the replacements at The Nocking Point, Mike has them there.

If you have a fabric store like Joannes near you, they sell high density foam also. You can buy a sheet and cut to size as you need it.

I have used those kneeling pads for gardeners that they sell at Home Depot or Loews. They come is various colors (I like pink       ), and you can get several from the 10"X12" ones.

Jim,

I had to replace the foam in a couple of quivers and used some of those yoga bloks from Wal-Mart. They are about 4x10x6 or so. They are pretty cheap and the foam is really dense, almost self healing. I have enough left over to make a about a hundred foam headed poppers for my flyrod as well.

I could only find blue, but spray painted the surface that would show and it worked fine.

From your post, it sounds like you need a form to have the quiver made. Could you shape the form from wood, making it to your exact specs, have the quiver done them shape the foam?

If your wife does Yoga they are perfect for what you want. Just get her yoga matt and cut apiece off.

I have cut up foam hunting seats for quivers.

3Rivers sells the Selway/Thunderhorn replacement foam for around $6.

Good ideas guys. A wooden prototype would make it easy for them to mould the leather too then I could glue the foam in.
