tubing cutter for carbons

Well I cut a bareshaft and one fletched arrow last night with a tubing cutter because I wanted to see how it would do.  I just plan on using this to get them tuned then take all the others to the bow shop and get them cut.  It worked ok but it is not as clean as an arrow saw.  I will let you guys know if the nock gives out and tears stuff up but I don't think that will happen.

Mo., my son had some carbons I cut with a tube cutter, no problems. It doesn't cut the internal weave or fibers clean, but  I just used a file and sandpaper to clean up. Could of used my dremel and cut-off wheel. Also cut some Graphlex shafts the same way. Sure others have done the same. Good shootin!

tubing cutters squish as much as cut and carbon may well fracture if it's squished.

I took my dremel and a cutoff wheel (their small) clamped it to a pc of corner molding and then clamped a stop for length.If carefull it makes a very clean cut

Be careful,carbon should be cut with a high speed saw.I made a cut-off jig for less then $30 with a Harbor Freight mini chop saw.I have cut dozens of aluminum and carbons for my self and friends.

Be careful tubing cutters can cause an unseen crack, they cut with compression which is the one thing a carbon shaft can not handle.

That's a no no, use a high speed cutoff saw or dremel tool.

Here we go again, a no no, who says? Cut-off wheel manufacturers. Have you done it? It worked fine for our arrows. Please don't discount anything if you haven't tried it! Good shootin to all!

I use a small hand held pipe cutter from home depot..5$, it takes a while and I use it on carbons and alums, i use lite compression and round and around I go, It's always clean and serves me well...and you can throw it in your quiver and take it with you.

i wouldnt chance cutting carbon with anything but a high speed cutter. i know 2 guys that still have carbons in their hands and arms. not from how the arrows were cut but from the unseen cracks in the shaft. i think most if not all arrow companies recommend carbons should only be cut with high speed.  anyway, thats why i shoot cedar. cut em with a pocketknife, and if they blow up atleast they ll smell good

I have not had any problems with the ones I cut but I probably wont do that again I think you guys have a good point and I knew better.
