Cheap target
« on: May 27, 2009, 12:47:00 PM »
I got a 50 pound feed sack and stuffed it with shrink wrap. The shrink wrap was the easy part to find. I went to my local grocery store and asked if they had any. They took me to the warehouse and gave me all I wanted.

I stuffed the feed sack tightly and used a stapler to close the opening. Then I tied cords to two corners and hung it up. The only cost to me was the .50 I spent on gas to get to the grocery store.

It's pretty close to the same size as my 3d deer target. I drew a slight shoulder line on both ends so i could shoot a left or right facing deer.  Hope this helps somebody in these tight times.  :)

I have been doing the same thing with feed bags.  Stuff it with shrink wrap plastic bags from the grocery store bread bags old tarps and so forth.  Almost any plastic that I can stuff in the bag.

Pac is that a hole I see in the shed. I know there would be a few if I were shooting there. I have bounced arrows off of many sheds, walls, trees, stumps, antiques, we won't talk about that one.

This is by far the most economical target out there.  Only downside is that broadheads will slice right through.

You might consider picking up heavier plastic sheeting for your stuffing.  I get mine from the local discount furniture store.  They are happy to give it away.  In my experience, shrink wrap tends to cling to arrow shafts, where the heavier plastic doesn't.  Makes pulling a bit easier and you never have to thumbnail plastic off your arrows.

Also, watch for the smaller feed sacks and grass seed bags.  Fill these and fold the end over a 50' piece of rope, then wire tie the flap into place.  Carry the end of the rope into your practice tree stand and you can retrieve arrows without having to climb up and down all the time (as long as you don't miss, that is!).

Honestly I didn't put that hole there.  I was teaching my daughter how to shoot a recurve and she did it. Dang kids but a small price to pay. Now the other bunch of holes appeared magically if my wife comes on here and asks.  :saywhat:

I like the painted on animals.  One looks kind of like a goat.  Think I'm going to have to try that with the next bag.
