To increase hunter numbers in MI, the DNR is considering changing opening day(s) to Saturdays. By doing so it increases license sales by 10% but if the season(s) open during the week hunter days afield are shown to be higher.

My question to all of you is - does the day of week of open season matter to you? If so how/why?

Also those of you that have "moving" opening days does that effect you?

Here in Nebraska opening day for archery deer season is always Sept. 15th. I don't think the day of the week makes much differance here. Now opening day for rifle is always a Sat and runs Sat to the following Sun. 2nd or 3rd wk of Nov.

In my neck of the woods it opens on October 1st every year.  I like a weekend opener so my first hunt will be a morning hunt, but I always hunt the opener no matter what day of the week it falls on.

Here in Ohio I don't think the opener for bow season matters to much.  IMO it comes in to early, most people including myself wait until the weather is cooler.  Our opener comes in the last week of September and it is just way to hot!!!

I usually hunt NJ the most. They always open on a saturday. It really doesn't matter to me. I guess a lot of people work all week and can only get out on week ends.

It's never too hot to hunt!  We aren't given that many days in our lifetime so I don't waste too many by waiting.

It doesn't matter here for archery, but it starts on a Saturday.  For rifle season, our season has always started the Monday after Thanksgiving.  It's a tradition and folks prepare for it.

If they can honestly predict a 10% increase, then by all means, they should do it.  I doubt the numbers though.

I save my hunting days for cooler weather so that determines when I hunt more than the date.
Take a kid hunting!
