Very nice and pointable bows.  Grips are quite narrow and have a little different feel.  Some beautiful woods.  His strap on quiver is a neat design as well.

He just donated one as a prize at the Appling Archer shoot this morning.

Of course he does have at one used Widow LB on his rack...you don't have a problem with 94#, do you?  To me that's a foot bow!  Don't call him Big Jim for nothing.

Thanks for the support guys. By the  way 16ga. the bow going to AdamH is the twin to yours. If you will remember, the first one I built for you came in a little too heavy to reduce. I don't like to take off very much and consequently miss weight a little more than a lot of others.

Steve, I build my grips to order. Some are narrow others are not. Palm swell, no swell, whatever.
I know that there are a few on the rack that might feel narrow compared to a recurve, but not so narrow when compared to other longbows. Again most of these were made that way by request and missed weight.

I ask my wife and some friends that help me at the shows to pay attention to what is said about not just the bows but anything good or bad about the booth. Doing this allows us to make improvements in order to serve our customers better. What is heard about the grips is they are too big, too small, too wide, too narrow, too cheap, too expensive, too red to black, to well you know what i'm getting at.
I only wish that I could keep more variety on the rack. Of course I love to sell stock bows, but that reduces the options for those who havn't had a chance to shoot my bows and custom builds allow me to build the handle and bow just the way the customer wants.
Oh well, i'm having fun and thats what really counts anyway.
As far as looking like a widow. There is no doubt that my bows and many others resemble widows to some degree. Widow makes a great bow and they are as good a group of people that you could ever hope to deal with. They have many atributes that I like and if I weren't making bows for myself and others that I like equally as well, I would be shooting theirs today. I can only hope that one day I will enjoy the wide spread reputation that they have "earned" as a quality company with outstanding customer service.
As far as me shooting heavy poundage, I practice by lifting heavy burgers and dinner plates often.
Shoot straight and often, BigJim

Got a chance to see Jim's bows at the Howard Hill shoot in Bama this past week end.  I have aways wanted a hybrid style longbow like the BW and his bows hit the mark!  I like the way they felt in my hand, solid with a little weight.  I'm so tempted to put in an order.  And you can't beet the price with a stick.

Forgot to mention i shot one of his take down LB and also a Black Widow LB. I couldnt tell any difference in the two, Jims bow was fast and super smooth. For sure a bow on my wish list.

Same here.... met him at Tannehill this weekend. I will be giving him a lot of my business. Very helpful fellow, and a rather large one at that. Got a handshake that would crack a coconut.

Just got one of his takedowns at Compton.  I can't say enough good things about the bow and the man.  Fast, quiet and no hand shock (the bow I am talking about).  Seems to shoot where I point.  The wood on the bow is "sepele" and is just purty my 13yr old daughter really liked the look.  Jim and his wife are also just GREAT people to deal with I will be giving them alot of my business.

I will agree with Capt, Big Jim just put a beavertail grip on my new bow and my buddy's at the Compton's shoot. One of the nicest fellers I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. He'll have a bunch of my business from now on. He does make a fine longbow also.

I got a bow on order that I hope to see in Aug. maybe early Sept. wasn't concerned about how quick exactly as he let me come by the shop to talk about it and pick out the wood and I knew that with all the shows he was doing it would be awhile.  Good people in my experience.  Can't wait to get the bow

One thing that hasnt been mentioned is Jims leatherwork. Bought a buffalo armgaurd from him at compton and the craftsmanship is outstanding. He is also a nice guy and stayed open at his booth in the worst of weather when everyone else packed it in.
