Well,it has been a long and at the same time short 31 days chasing turkeys for me here in NY! I started out in march scouting and following the turkeys in and around my hunting area! my wife and my self patterened the birds right up to opening day(may 1st) we built three ground blinds on their travel paths, I don't usually use calls or decoys, just hunt them like i would deer, this tactic has proven its self over the years and i have taken alot of mature toms like this with other weapons!! my first three days out i had turkeys in my lap but couldn't draw because of hens(this is where i wish i had a pop up that would fit my longbow) anyway, all three chances at a nice tom i was after ended with him alive and i more educated! strike three!! this is my brothers land that I hunt on and he gave me three days before he started! i sent him into my best spot, said he's all yours go get him! he hunts by other means, so he did, big mature tom with a 10" beard! his first mature tom and my bro was very thankful!! the rest of the season was hit or miss and i even used my pop up with calls and decoys with my short recurve, but it wasn't ment to be!! this is my second year for turkeys ,trad only and i'll be willing to bet that next year i'll get shots off and maybe even score!! had the best time hunting with trad, theres nothing like getting so close to a game amimal you can see into their brain thru their eyes!! i love it!!!
