Tab size?
« on: June 05, 2009, 03:38:00 PM »
I have been playing with some different tabs.  How do you know what size to get?  I never see anything that tells you how it should fit.  Some are different and not all M or L fit me the same.  I tend to be a little tight in M gloves, bow or otherwise, and too loose and long in the fingers with L gloves.  If you have a pic of a correctly fitted tab I would appreciate it.

I thin I am finding that shorter is better.  I almost think it shoots better.  Also I think shorter protects the fingers better.  I wouldn’t have thought so, but I think the short tab gets out of the way and doesn’t allow the string to press the tab into the finger tips when the string leaves.  Maybe it is just my imagination.

If you look at the tab when it is in use on the string you should not see any sticking out past your fingertips.  Actually, I prefer it to be about 1/4" short of the fingertips when on the string.  When the tab in on my hand with my hand open the end comes to the first crook of my fingers.  I don't think there is a standard to go by like you would a glove.  Look at a picture of the tab you plan on purchasing and note if it can be cut back if necessary.  A pair of sharp scissors will take it down to size and a file around the edge will give you a smooth finish.  I ordered a large and extra large Bateman tab recently and discovered the large was what I needed.  I always need XL gloves so I wasn't sure.  A pair of scissors and a few minutes later the XL was the same size as the Large.  Hope that helps.

From the hand size you describe x, I would go with a large. It's better to have too much material and cut it back than too little. Any of the tabs I'm aware of can be cut or you could even custom fit your own out of a good piece of cordovan..
