Bear td supreme review
« on: June 12, 2009, 10:37:00 PM »
Hi i have been wanting to order the new bear td supreme, for quite some time .
i own a couple of bw bows, that i love ,they shoot great ,and they are very tuff and durable bows ,
I have read bad things about the new bear takedowns , limbs delaminating risers cracking ? .
i have a friend that has an old bear 60" td it shoots really nice but it does stack at my 29" draw .
I really like the looks of the new bear supreme ,but it is lots  of money to spend if quality is an issue,
i would really like to hear opinions or reviews about the bear td supreme from people who has shoot them or is a owner of 1
thx Cody
ps sorry for bad spelling i live in australia but originaly from sweden

Cody,
I don't own a Supreme yet but I do own several Bear takedowns. I can tell you that the customer service at Bear is top notch.  I can personally vouch for that.  There are good people working there that care about their customers.  Read my story on this site titled "Fred Bear would be proud".  I've also heard horror stories about the Supremes.  They had problems with them when they first came out but I've heard those problems have been resolved. When my money gets right I plan on getting one or if I can find a used one at a reasonable price I'll go for that. Good luck!   Murray

I've had mine for about 9 months now and have no complaints yet. I've experienced NONE of the problems I've heard some have had. This bow shoots great, is very quiet and I think looks gorgeous!    :)

(I did however, re-finish mine in a satin finish as the high gloss finish it came with was just too much for this old hunter to "bear"!!)   :saywhat:

Thanks. I was fortunate and got mine in a trade. I honestly can't say if they're worth the price or not, (Money's only an issue when you DON'T have it) but I know what it's worth to me...and that's NO amount of money- as in: NOT FOR SALE!!    "[dntthnk]"

Hi guys Thanx for info keep it coming  .
Stickbow 98 are you shooting fast flyte ? i really like your bow looks nice with the satin >
i think maybe many bear  td. that have been broken, is because people are shooting light weight carbon   arrows ,and fast flyte string .
i think if you shooting fast flyte, out of new bear td ,you need to shoot heavy arrows ,even black widow say in owners manual,, that they recomend minimum 9 grains per pound ,preferably 10-11 grains per pound , if you shooting heavy poundage and longer draw lengths over 28 "
i have seen an old bear td riser crack because owner was shooting light carbons and put on a fast flyte string he did manage to fix riser he injected epoxy with pressure and he is now using old dacron string .
thanx again like i said lots of money to spend so i appreciate your time .

Cody,
No fast-flyte here. All my bows are shot using B-50 strings made by Raineman, a member here on Tradgang, who makes the best strings I've shot yet. My Supreme is only 50# and I'm shooting heavy cedars that fly like darts and weigh in around 580 grains. (Close to 12 gr/pound on avg.) My bow is very quiet with this combo and I get great penetration as well w/ the broadheads I favor when using this bow. (Bear Razorheads, of course!    :D )

I second the use of heavy arrows[10gr.to12gr.]Some people don`t know how hard it is on a bow shooting the lightest arrow possible[close to dry firing].It may be flat shooting, but it`s only a matter of time before something happens.Any takedown should shoot heavy arrows to help them last a looonng time. They ain`t cheap.Besides, you get better penatration.

Hi again stickbow98 ,did the bow come with fastflyte when you bought it?
they say you loose about 8 feet per second with dacron, i am not a speed freak, but 8 fps is almost the equivalent of  10 pounds of draw weight . i am really close to ordering one  ,it does not say on 3 rivers if it comes with fast flyte or not, from what i have read it is not the limbs that is the problem when using fastflyte ,it is the vibration that goes in to riser then makes riser crack . The limbs are supposed to be able to take the vibration <
thx cody

Hi guys,
I finally got my bow straightened out. Got the inserts put in for the quiver, that went fine. Had to send back two sets of limbs before I got a set that would not crack. I ordered the bow at 55 pounds and it shoots great.
I can't believe I went this long without a bear bow hanging on my wall. The bow is real fast, and I am shooting the fast flight string, I figure if they come that way, they should be designed for it.

Hi Jeff 2 set of limbs that does not sound good . maybe i should wait with my bear  i do not like to send things back ,i live in Australia to much of a hazzle , for that price limbs should hold together unless you are shooting really light arrows ,
thx again cody

Find a handle and buy that and then get some limbs from Schafer Silvertip Bows.  You will have a better bow that way.  Joseph

Nevada, 8fps does not equate to 10# of draw weight.  More like three pounds.  And 8 fps is about the maximum difference found between dacron and fast flite type materials.  Depending on bow design, it' usually closer to 3 to 5 fps difference.  Good luck.

Cody,
The cracking on the limbs, was in the clear finish.
I shot the bow after the cracks appeared, and it still shot fine. Bear paid for all of the shipping, so it was some hassle, but I would do it again. If you do order it takes about three months to get the bow.

Hi again guys .. Orion i have 3 widow pl longbows and 3 pmax recurves and  1 pga ..
shooting non scientific thru my chrono 10 pounds seems to be ca 10 feet per second but it depends how heavy arrow you are using
but  shooting a 580 grain arrow i get ca 167 with my 50 pound 62" pmax and i get ca 177 with my 59 pound 62"pmax  so it is pretty close to what i said .
Jeff ok it was in the finish that is not so bad as i first thought if it would of been the glass it would of been bad ..
what string length is the string if i order a dacron string 56"?
cheers  and thx again
