Thinkin' of Trying Carbons-UPDATE

Hey guys and gals. I'm thinkin' I might need to try carbons with Trad. I shot carbons for years with wheelies but never tried with trad. I am just wondering where to start. I'm kinda partial to Carbon Express but am also open to others. I think I may start out with a budget friendly shaft but I don't wanna sacrifice too much in quality of shafts by goin' too cheap. I'll be shooting them in a cut-to-center Beeler LB, around 52#@27", with a D97 FF string. I like arrows in the 28-30" range in length. Anybody know anything about the Carbon Express Predator II shafts?

In another post I started, "30coupe" recommended Beman ICS Bowhunter 500s and said they're cheap. Anybody else recommend these too?

Try out a few different ones if you can. I personally love my Arrow Dynamics. I shoot the same shaft out of all 13 of my bows. They range between 45# and 55#. I pretty much use close to the same weight up front too.

Gold Tip Expedition Hunters are another good choice for someone on a tighter budget.  I have them listed on my website for $75.00 they have arrows wraps and are fletched with 5" feathers.

Like Wannabe said you can not go wrong with Arrow Dynamics they come in Wood Grain or Black.

I use the GT 55/75's (30.5") with 250gr up front. they work great off both my 50#recurve and my 50# longbow.

I have been using Easton Power flights 500s. Works good out of my recurves . I like to shoot ground  sqirrels so I need somthing that will last a bit longer at hitting rocks.

Go with the beeman mfx 500. Those skinny carbons do well.

GT blems, are 39.99 a dozen from Big Jim, they are good shafts for the money.

If I go with the GT, which should I choose? The 35/55 or 55/75? About how much weight up front with each?

The bowhunters are good shafts.I shoot them a lot.Hard to beat the price as well if you shop around a little.I prefer Beman/Easton products over most others.

I took your advice, Steve R. and just bought 12 Beman MFX Classic 500s on here in the classifieds. They're 29.25" and have 100 grain brass inserts installed and are fletched w/4" shield-cut feathers. Only one has been shot! I think these are gonna be ideal.

I just tried predator 2s as my first carbons. I couldn't believe how nice they flew... but was also surprised at the lack of durability. I broke 4 in 2 weeks, and I'm really not too hard on them. I don't know if it was because I was using glue inserts and points?

It looks like you found what you were looking for.  I wanted to also try carbons out of my 50# recurves - weigh up the front end, better penetration, etc.  I ended up using the Easton Axis 500s (400s were too stiff) cut to 30 1/2", 3 5" feathers, 100 gr brass inserts, 145 gr 4 blade Magnus bheads.  setup works great.  Took this bear with them (15 yds, 50 yd recovery) and hope to use this on moose this fall.
