Noisey long bow

Just recieved a 3 pcs long bow on trade. It is by far the loudest bow I have ever shot.A loud twang. I have adjusted the brace height below and above recomended lenght. I installed woolie whispers at the 1/4 points and put a thin pad between the riser and limb.Arrows are 575 grains and the bow is [email protected] aluminum and wood arrows not much differance in sound.This is a quality, well made bow from a company that other trad gangers speak very highly of.  What should I try next?

Are you sure you're getting a smooth release?  If cut loose with a bad release, it'll make a twang sound on my bows sometimes.

Also, have someone else shoot the bow while you stand off to the sides.  A lot of bows seem to sound louder behind them rather than off to the side or out in front.

Try a different string. Sometimes it will make a big difference.

Check your nock point and arrow spine.  My guess would be that the noise is coming from arrow contact.  I would also bring the brace height back down into the recommended range.  You should not have to have an extreme brace height to quiet the bow, unless there is another problem.  At least in my opinion.

i just bought two of the sims glue on limbsaver silencer doo-hikes.  do they look trad?  nope.  did it quiet my bow down, absolutely!

A "twang" means sound from the string.Make sure your nocks are not tight.Tight nocks that pluck the string make one twang pretty bad.Wrong spined arrows will make a bow much louder as well.

James is correct. I have a long bow that was making the same sounds and found out that my nock was too tight. When I replaced it and put the new nock just snug so it wouldn't slip, the noise quieted way down. A good set of whisker silencers and the bow sounds very quiet now.

Thanks everyone I have a new string ordered, I will loosen up my nocks tomorrow and see if that helps.

When all else fails: Take your string off and seperate it at around 14"s from the loops on both ends. Slide in a couple strands of cat whiskers. Restring it and let me know how it sounds.OR if you have a wheely bow shop close by buy a set of "string leeches" . They go inbetween the string also. If they can quiet a wheely bow they can quiet a Trad Bow.I had a problem with a very noisey, expensive, high end, name brand bow a few years back. I called Golden Hawk [may he RIP] when I received it. He was the person that explained to me that a noisey bow has to have silencers inbetween the string to make it quiet. Plus he made me a new string for the bow.
