Finally a romp in the woods
« on: June 18, 2009, 09:52:00 PM »
Was able to get loose for a couple of hours today so I grabbed "Mojo" and headed to Fort stewart. Its the only place I can hunt in June and July except for a small tract of private land I have to boat to and I did`nt have time for that.

It was VERY hot and muggy but I managed to make a big loop in the Cannoche River swamp.Got into lots of pig sign right of the bat. I`ve hunted this area before so I did know where to start.

I heard a noise in some water and made my way over to a mini waterfall...

The place was covered in pork sign...

Leaned against a tree while looking for a porker and got eye to eye with this fella
...

A pic of the River...

And a stump thats probably older than me...

Ran a group of pigs off I had`nt seen in a small thicket when they winded me. I shot a bunch of stumps and logs and drank about a gallon of cold water back at the truck .The heat index was 105. But I loved it.RC

You got to love a guy who goes out and hunts in this kind of weather.

RC, I evesdrop on most of your hog hunting posts... Always entertaining and the good possibility of me learning something.  I'm glad to see I'm not the only one crazy enough to tromp around in a swamp with the snakes and bugs during the summer!  Better luck next time.

Thanks for taking us along RC.  I have been wanting to get down to Ft. Stewart and hunt.  As big as it is I just have not done the homework to make it happen.

That's not a brown recluse. Here is what they look like:

I think that's a nursery web spider. They are pretty common, but not especially dangerous. Big suckers though!

I sweat hard when we get close to 80 up here, can't imagine trying to go for a long walk at that temp.  Though I would love to have been out and looking for pigs with you.  Thanks for taking me along.
