New Mexico Deadline
« on: March 27, 2007, 12:34:00 AM »
Just a reminder that the NM deadline for draws is April 7th. Just put mine in for elk, deer, antelope. Hope I have better luck than last year.
The web site is  www.wildlife.state.nm.us
Good luck!

PT just put in for the first time since moving here. Sure hope to draw an elk tag. Good luck!

Whip and I just put in for Unit 52 (I think) for elk. Probably going to put in for deer too just in case!

Beachbow, I know that there are some monster muley's running around in unit 52. Not very many permits going out for the elk or deer. That would be something if you were selected for both. Bear season is in at the same time. Might be an option. And bring your fishing pole. Some good trout fishing in the upper part of the state... John

Thanks for the tips. We put in for elk using an outfitter's number which supposedly helps the odds. Whip found a young man starting out on his own who does a semi-guided, drop camp type of thing that we found interesting. This will be my first elk hunt. Luckily Whip has some good experience under his belt. Is bear a draw too or over the counter?

Just put in for Valles Caldera. I know it's a long shot, but man would that be a great hunt.

Beachbow, it is over the counter. Alot of guys around here hunt the gut pile after killing an
elk and have been pretty successful. Baiting is not allowed and I can't tell you if this would be considered baiting or not? You can go to NM site that I mentioned above and look at the seasons/fees ect. As Burnsie said that hunt would be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Just looked at the proclamation and Non Resident bear is $260 and must be purchased 2 days before hunting. One other piece of advice.. get in shape. That is some high country up there.. John
