I tried both over the years and have settled on 3 fletch. It just seems to look a little better and it seems to shoot just as well. I do use index nocks and index the fletching on the bow by feel. So, I don't bother with using a different color cock feather any more.
My opinion is that it is fun to experiment, you might want to shoot all kinds of combinations and see what you like the most.

I've tried both. I find no particular advantage to 4 fletch, so I save a feather and do 3 now. If your setup is well tuned, you don't need much for fletching.

Definatly 3 it's cheaper to do 3, and in my opinion your just wasting a feather with 4.

I shoot 4 I like the looks and it seems to shoot better for me.
As for wasting feathers I gain an extra feather by shooting 4. I get 3 3" feathers instead of 2 4" so I don't know what everyone is talking about.

I chop my own feathers... it's cheaper for me to 4 fletch than 3. If you're buying precut I can see not wanting to blow the extra cash.

I like 4 fletch. They look good and fly great. In one of Asbell's books he talks about how 4 fletch stabalizes quicker and fly just as fast as 3 fletch or something like that. Shoot what you like and works.

i shoot both...i use a smaller feather for the four fletch and think it looks cool in hot pink. Seriously, the 4-fletch, especially in white or hot pink, makes it easier for my old eyes to follow the flight of the arrow to the animal.

I hear you rastaman! My eyes aren't old yet, but I use 4-fletch (4"), all blaze orange with blaze orange cresting wraps and blaze orange nocks. Only one time was I unable to find a stray arrow, and that was in 2 foot deep snow!
But to get on topic, I like 4-fletch (120 & 60 degree, not 90 & 90 degree) for the look and the symetry.

Been shooting 4 fletch for years.(120x60)
Deer don't seem to care how many feathers are on the arrow that hits 'em!
Besides I like the look!
