Black Glass VS Clear Glass
«

Is one any better than the other or is it just a color preference?
Thanks,

From what I understand there is a slight performance difference with black glass being a bit faster. Personally, I don't think a few extra feet per second would make the choice for me, but I'm not all hung up on speed anyway.
Black looks very classy with some riser woods. Clear over veneers can be beautiful. So to me, color preference is the deciding factor. Get what you like.

Black is slightly faster and doesn't show it's flaws like clear glass does which is getting harder to find "clean".

I prefer black glass if I can get it and not for speed. I just like the way it looks.

I don't know much about it, but I chose clear class for my newly ordered custom bow, so I'd be able to see the muirapiranga (bloodwood) beneath

No difference in performance according to Craig at Howard Hill Archery and he should know. It has been rumored for years that Black is a better performer. Craig has researched it and says it just ain't so.

May this depend on the type of bow? I believe Bob Morrison stated that the black glass has better performance.

Black glass will spine a little hevier than clear glass.A little stiffer means less core mass to hit the same weight coming out of the form.I would not use it to decide on buying a bow if you like the looks of clear but I do prefer black glass over clear myself.

One of the best looking bows I've had wore black glass. And everyone that saw it thought it was a beauty, not just me.
The one I have on order now will have black glass for a couple of reasons: it looks good, it's less expensive, it works well in blinds, it doesn't have ugly streaks like a lot of clear does, and there is the question of performance.
If at any time I decide it doesn't have enough glamour, I can cover it with some snake skins and take it up a notch.
