Bear Heads forElk?
« on: July 09, 2009, 04:47:00 PM »
I ran across a few new Bear Green heads and was thinking about using them for Elk hunting. How tough is this head? Would it fail with a 60+ bow on large bone hits?

Thanks for your imput .. God Bless

Absolutely not, I have taken a couple elk with them and numerous other game as well, in my opinion and I am sure it will be disputed, but it is one of the top five broadheads ever made!  One thing though make sure you use the bleeder blades if you do in fact decide to use them.
Luck has nothing to do with it, just Boot leather and a GWP.

Exactly what Anaconda said, plus the fact that they have taken every animal on the planet at one time or another.  Pretty undeniable track record.  They can easily take an elk.  Don't shoot for the large bones, that is hard on broadheads. dino

Fred didn't have any trouble taking
elk with them out of a 65# Kodiak, or
anything else for that matter.
They will do fine.
Good luck on your elk hunt.

Large elk bones are going to stop most any broadhead, including the Bear head you're considering,.... so don't shoot them in the large bones.

I know a guy that has killed everything including 15+ elk with a 60lb wheel bow.  I know he will defend them to no end and he is one of those type guys that when he talks, he talks from experience and ya better be listening!  I respect what he says and he says they kill.  The wheel bows he uses (old school finger shooter) dont really shoot too much faster than my bows (he does around 230fps with around 500gr arrow) so I think they would work great for us.

Fred had no problems killing critters all over the world with them. The critters haven't changed.

I agree with many posters: If it was good enough for Fred to know down just about everything that walks I would say no problem on the Elk. Fred was a superior inventor and innovator. His ideas / equipment / etc have withstood the test of time.

rib cage- you want the rib cage! Sharpen those heads; and practice for a small target- as an elk is big...but a poor shot on an elk will ruin your day.
I suggest practicing with your knees knocking together  :)
