? about my set up
« on: July 12, 2009, 09:46:00 PM »
My bow is 51@28" and my draw is 28".

I've been shooting 30 1/4" ce150s w/ a 20 gr aliminum footing and a 131 gr (4 blade magnus) broadhead for a total arrow weight of 481 gr.

About a week ago I switched over to a 174 gr (Magnus Flying Hatchet) on the same arrow with a total weight of 524 gr.

With the heavy arrow I shot slightly weak but exspected that.  I was able to get back in tune simply by raising the brace height.  Now my brace height is almost maxed out but I'm getting good flight and the bow is very quiet.

My question is should I leave the bow set up as is or shorten my arrows just a bit so I can lower my brace height for a longer power stroke?

On another note using a post office scale I found out my arrow's weight was not what I thougt it was.  Originally I came up with my arrow weight by adding up the gpi for the shaft + the weight of the head + the weight of the footing for my total arrow weight.  After weiging on the postal scale I found out my estimated weight was actually less than what I thought it was.  I guess the manufactuers gpi is an average instead of a fact.

i think if the arrows are shooting great and the noise is not an issue i would leave it be.

Carbons are VERY sensitive to length, so if you must cut, do it a very little bit at a time (not more than 1/4"). Otherwise, as tradtusker said, leave well enough alone.
