New Scoring System???
« on: July 14, 2009, 03:55:00 PM »
All this stuff regarding major league ball players who used steroids and whether or not they should be eligible has gotten me thinking.

On TV we see all these "managed" areas with feed plots, engineered crops and nutritional suplements( check out some magazines), special limited harvest techniques and areas, etc.

Should there be a new scoring system for whitetail deer? One for "real" deer and one for "engineered enhanced antler systems" ???

Pen-raised deer or fairchase deer?  P & Y already have rules about this.  If not pen-raised, then the deer must have the freedom to move, eat what it wants, and the ability to escape, right?

I know there's a fine line between "managed" and pen-raised.  BTW, I believe we all like tagging big bucks but I also think most of us are not overly concerned with a score.

I think if you erase the guys name and put in a smilie face instead, so only the deer gets the credit for growing the big rack, all of this will be moot in a short time.

Perfect answer!

The record books were originally supposed to honor the animal. This showed state angencys that the bow and arrow was a viable weapon.

Take out the hunters names and all this bs will be gone in one season.

Pope and Young has outlived its usefulness, unfortunately.   The organization has other things it does to help hunting, but most folks only consider it a "trophy organization."  I would agree;  No names.....take the egos away and see what happens.
