A couple of interesting questions for you guys!
« on: July 25, 2009, 04:47:00 AM »
OK, lets see where to start. I have a Black widow SAX recurve that is 53@28 60 Amo. Question is, I have never been able to truley tune an arrow to the bow and I have been trying for 2 years, where as other bows only took me a day. My arrows always show weak unless I get a shaft that I know is way to stiff and then it will fly stiff. Currently I am shooting GT 5575 at 30.5 inches with 100 grain brass insert and 125 point. Black widow manuel reccomends a 2216 at 30 inches long with a 125 grain point, I tried it it showed week. Anyways this story will be really long I list everything I have tried. But the arrows I am shooting now Fly like darts with with 5 inch feathers, and my broadheads fly exactly with my field points (125gr magnus 2 blade). But if I screw on a vennted or 3 blade broadhead they seem to have alot of wind noise and tend to not fly as good as a non vented broadhead.

Now for the funny part, I borrowed my buddies bow, its almost the exact same bow, exceptit is only 50 pounds and 2 inches shorter. I had it bareshafting in 5 minutes. I thought it was kinda funny. The other only thing is his had a non fastflight string on it.

I might have just rambled on and confused everyone but I have tried everything, knock point, braceheight, and numerous different arrows. Finally settled for some that my broadheads flew well with.

Any comments or suggestions appreciated.

Okay, what method of bareshaft tuning are you using? I recommend judging arrow flight by "point of impact" as they relate to the impact at various distances compared to your fletched arrows.

Click this link then click on "bow tuning" for the best guide I've ever seen on the subject:

I was relating to the knock end being way left (i am right handed) but I can get the bear shafts to hit pretty darn close to my fletched shafts but the knock end is way left.

Try a new string. Sounds funny but it worked for me. Ed

If you can get a shaft to fly stiff at all, then you just haven't found the right spine/length combo. I suggest building out the shelf a bit with the ones that are a little weak.

I agree with Don, build the shelf up and strike plate out.(just a bit)

I just got through shooting, I would shoot a gruop of 2 field points and 1 broadhead. I would group together and I was shooting from 15 -25yds.

So, do i build out the side plate and the shelf that the arrow sits on.
Thanks guys for all the suggestions.

I used a tooth pick to build out my strike plate exactly above the throat of the grip. Tamed my widow right now.

I don't think you want to build up the shelf any- that can cause real problems if you go too far. What oldskool said.
