Easton Lightspeeds
« on: January 05, 2007, 01:20:00 PM »
I've got a dozen Easton Lightspeeds in 500 spine that I'm trying to tune to my bows (57/58 at 28)

Does anyone have an opinion on these shafts at all? Does anyone else use 'em?

What did you need to do to get them flying right out of your setup?

I'm wanting to stick to 150gn WWs (including the adapter) for ease of tuning. Can anyone give me any pointers at all?

if your gonna stick 150 woodsmans on the front, you shoulda gone with the 400s or even the 340s...

Really...    I've cut them to 29-1/2"
I went from Easton's Hunting shaft selector & it reckons 500s for 150gn at 29" I've just been into my workshop & looked at bareshafting a few with 145gh field piles & they look to be a little stiff. I've filled them with poly tubing (roughly 100gns) to bring them to around 440gns. I was thinking of adding another 90gn up front, behind the insert to reduce the spine!
My problem is that weight tubes, inserts & heavier piles aren't avilable in the UK. I was wondering if it'd be OK to stack .22 air-rifle pellets (30gn each) behind the insert & use the poly tube to hold them in place?

I shoot 340's cut a smidge less than 30 out of a #65 bow, with 100 grns and 150 to 175 points (I like high FOC)...a very good 3D shaft but in y experience a little fragile for hunting purposes and certainly not the best choice for stumping...

Much prefer Beman Black Max 4's for hunting...with aluminum footing for stumping...

As for loading them with pellets...I'd be careful of that...I JB welded some 90 grn .243 bullets into some GT'S...worked great at first...but they popped loose over time...on the shot it sounded like I blew a string or delammed...luckily the arrow held together and I wasn't injured...

You might want to try screwing in a length of steel screw to the back of the insert and epoxying that...I've tried that as well...seemed to work fine...but it was a pain...and I couldn't get it out of my head that the arrow flight was a little worse...

I am not sure why you would buy a light shaft like the lightspeed if you were going to try and add weight to them? Cut that length out of that weight bow I could not shoot over a 100gn point without them being weak.I shoot 500s cut 29 with 125gn points out of bows in the mid to high 40s.
....Quality deer management means shooting them before they get tough....

The only reason I ask, is that for my FITA recurve shooting, I've just moved from these arrows to ACE's & had them kicking about doing nothing. I thought I might try & get some use out of them, rather than just have them sat gathering dust   :D  It's just an extra dozen shafts to bring to Texas with me, In case things get frantic   :knothead:   I've got them cut down to 29" and shooting nicely, my bareshafts, fletched & broadheads all seem to be grouping together out to 22yds I was reluctant to try a 2 bladed head on them, just in case of a silly flyer, but they do seem to fly very well at that distance. I'm going out to our 3D course tommorrow to try them at longer ranges, just to show up any further faults, but preliminary tests are looking very good!    :goldtooth:
