KME broadhead sharpener?
« on: July 31, 2009, 10:56:00 AM »
Need some advise. I stopped at a archery shop and they had a KME sharpening jig in the discontinued bin for 8.99, I bought it. I do not have sharpening stones and a friend recogmended using different grits of sand paper. Does anyone do this? If so what grits do you suggest or should I purchase stones and what type?

Call Ron at KME and he can get you set up with the right stones. Good purchase on the sharpener!! I wish I could get a dozen at that price!

You found yourself a bargain!

I've used mine with sandpaper of different grits, progressing down to a very fine emery paper.  Works great, but you do need a very flat surface to work on. I use the table of my table saw.  For a portable surface I have used a piece of bathroom tile.

The stones would be the best bet in the long run, and will last a long time.  Give Ron a call.

Thanks guys for the info. I called Ron at KME and he was a great guy to talk to and very informative, just don't mention another brand of sharpener because he will threaten to raise the price of his. LOL just kidding Ron has a great sense of humor.

do what he says...be patient...the edge will come and then you will be hooked.  I have a drink or two and turn on some relaxing music while I'm sharpening my BH's.

FWIW - I was talking with a leathersmith recently who said he buys his stones from Ron because they are some of the best he can get......

I bought a deluxe broadhead kit last weekend from Ron at ETAR and he was extreemly busy demonstrating his product to others at the time.  I went back the next morning when he wasn't busy yet and got one on one lessons from him.  Invaluable lessons.  He's a really nice guy with a great product and will spend lots of time to help others out.

Ron is a great guy.  I called to ask a few questions and was prepared to buy both the BH and Knife sharpener systems.  We talked awhile and after several questions, he suggested that I just purchase the knife sharpener, saying for my needs it was the best/cheapest way to go.  Heck, I probably still buy the BH sharpener, just because of his great customer service and honest approach with folks.  Can't wait to get the sharpener, I may be busy the next few weeks sharpening BH's and all the knives I've got.
