ST Judes Fishing/Hog trip
« on: August 02, 2009, 11:46:00 PM »
Just got back today from a father/child inshore fishing trip that I won on the St Judes auctions. Went down to Beaufort SC to fish/hunt with Sunny Hill Archer. He put me and my daughter on the fish Saturday, caught many smallish redfish a few trout and of note a 21 inch flounder and 27 inch redfish. Also got to go hog hunting Sunday morning would have had a pig but I suddenly forgot how to shoot and shot under a pig at 20 yards, maybe less. Got to put the stalk on 2 others but my plan to let them walk by at a few yards didnt pan out and they dissapeared into the thicket with no shot taken. Great trip that I will be bidding on next year. Thanks Michael for the good time.
In the picture of the Flounder note my thumb and be careful with those broadheads. I know I will from now on.

Yep, a good time with good people. My daughter is not really the out doors type but she had a blast. The smile on her face in some of the pics we took said it all. I told her if we went hog hunting I would find something for her to do but she said no she wanted to go hog hunting her words were "I am going, thats exciting".

I don't have time to tell all the story right now, but Mike and Jennifer were great guests. The hog hunt was a spur of the moment thing and went GREAT!!!!

Friday(the day they were to arrive) it seemed like I was an hour behind all day long. There were no less than five emergency walk-ins at the office and I didn't get out when I wanted to. So they beat me to the house. When the arrived the wind was still so I said"Y'all want to try it this evening?"Of course they were all for it.

While they were getting settled I was rigging rods. We put in and of course the wind starts blowing 10- 15. My best flounder drop is an east west bank.  The wind was out of the south. It was only a 15 minute run but by the time we got there the water was chocolate milk.

So we had a pleasant boat ride on the Coosaw river uninterrupted by smelly old fish.

On Saturday we planned on putting in at 10 AM.The wind was still blowing 10 to 15 early.

We had to get my wife to take us to Lucy Creek because the wind had blown the water out of our cut earlier than expected.

We got on the water at about 10:15 and went to catch bait. When we got there Flipper was already in the creek. We got to see two dolphins beach themselves to eat the mullet and shrimp. It was very cool.

My 9 year old son Woods started throwing the cast net and was pancaking it every time! In short order we had 2 dozen shrimp and some mullet.
Then I threw a few more times and we had at least 10 dozen shrimp. I let Jennifer drive us back out to the Bull river. She did great!

We went to the first drop and it was slow because the tide had not yet turned. We did pick up a few trout but not in the numbers I was expecting. We moved to the second drop and it too was slow for about 45 minutes. Then it turned on. We had multiple hookups for the hour and a half. They were all rat reds from 9 to 13 inches. We were running through the shrimp. Then the fun really began!!!!!
