Ghillie Suits??

Hey all, new to bow hunting and this forum, was wondering what your experiences with ghillie suits have been. Are they useful? and if they are useful which ones are the best?  I'm hunting in thick Georgia woods late summer through winter.

I have used one for a few years elk hunting in Colorado...work great...I built my own.

Check the archives there is a ton of information on ghille suits, both homemade and store purchased.  Most people that respond to those threads seem to totally believe in their worth.  The biggest complaint is usually that they are hot.  Every couple days I go back to some of those threads but haven't had the time to construct one -- yet!

Awesome.  IMHO if you can sit still they eliminate the need for a blind of any sort if you hunt in the woods.

Yeah, they are great.. but they are better in cooler temps.. here in GA it's a pack it in, spray down and put it on and try not to sweat too much... Search will pull up more than you ever wanted to know...

Don't wear one in those Georgia woods if there's a lot of greenbriar in it!  You don't know what "stuck" is until you blunder into a mess of greenbriar with a ghillie suit on!  

Where I hunted in Georgia greenbriar was common.  Ditto for blackberry bushes.

I love mine! It's very light weight, but it does pick up every twig in the woods:)

good god they are hot! and they make me sneeze and when you sweat you get little ghillie fuzziez all stuck to you.

but man you can compleatly ghost in one of them. i love mine.

I made a small one to put on top of my head/hat for stalking mulies and black bears.

I took an old mosquito net and cut a 3'x3' square and then started cutting two slits at a time.

In each of these two slits I would combine synthetic threads of tan, green, gray, and dark green to creat a "sage" colored combo.

I made a 2'x1.5' section totally "ghillied".  It is loaded in my Badlands 4500 along with my other gear for a 6 day hunt on the Eastern Slope of the Sierra's here in CA.

If I remember I will post up any changes I would make when I am back.
