It was a fun deal, I'd seen the bear the night before and even had video of him sitting in front of the 55 gal drum...but he never gave me the shot I wanted. Anyway I was lucky enough to to shoot him the following night & heard the death moan. That a pretty big deal for me as I only hear about 60% from one ear
Now the fun part, back at camp I let everyone finish telling their stories of the evening hunt. Then I went up to Tom, put my hand on his shoulder, and asked if the deal was still on! Five years earlier we were carrying out another friends bear...err that is Tom was carrying out the bear of about a 125# on his shoulders. I was having trouble keeping up with him going UP Hill. I asked if he needed help and that's when he said
" Naw but someday I'd like to carry out a 300 pounder that you arrow!!"
Well I knew I killed a Big Bear but I didn't think it was a 300 pounder until we found him the next morning. We have great video of Tom carrying Mr Big out of the bush. It took FOUR of us to lift MR Big onto Tom's shoulders! If I can get my son-in-law to get the digital tape on to a DVD I'll post it here.
BUT that maybe a little while as my wife just called me to say our daughter is in Labor & Charge up the Camcorder
