Colorado GMU help.

Due to a last minute change in plans I have to come up with a different archery hunting spot this year. I am kind of in a pinch here with time and have been trying to pour over info to pick a unit. I have been looking into GMU's 4,12,13,24, and 39. Do any of you have any experience with any of these units, maybe give me some advice that will help in a decision. I can either backpack it in, or take the truck with camper and ATV, get back so far with it and walk back even further every day. I have no pref points. I can get into more details in a PM if you would like. Thanks guys for the help.

Never hunted those areas I hunt in units 7.  I'll pass this onto Phil and see what he says.  By the way I am in Gilcrest just a couple of miles from you.

I work at Archery in the Wild on Tuesday and Thursday nights, stop in and see me some time. Except for next week, I will be in Ne hunting turkeys. I have hunted all those areas up north too, kind of like 19. But getting tired of all the people and arnt seeing too many elk anymore.

Bowhnter7, I usually hunt area 12 which also allows you to hunt north of the white river in 23 and 24. Archery permits usually don't require many if any points for residents. The access is pretty easy so there is usually a pretty good supply of people in the area also. Not usually too bad until muzzleloader season starts up, which is also just about the time the rut starts in good so there is a lot of good and some bad to contend with. 4 has good animals but even more people. Thats a big reason I started in 12. Used to hunt 4 a lot but was able to get away from the people a little more in 12. You will not find any record animals in 12 but I have always been able to find plenty of elk and usually quite a few mule deer. Now for me finding and killing is not the same thing but I did manage to get a decent little 5 point bull out of the north part of 24 last year. If interested I can point out a few of the spots that generally have animals. Good blue grouse hunting in the area also and if interested in snowshoes you will usually find a few of them also.

i've hunted in 12 for a few years, we are putting in for 39 this year because of time constraints with driving from denver...probably wont draw for elk but should for deer.  pm me if you want some spots in 12, i'll send you some pics too that might help with the decision
