broadhead wieght
« on: August 10, 2009, 05:15:00 PM »
I wanted to buy some broadheads and was wondering what wieght to buy.  I'm shooting a Kodiak hunter 50# @28" with Easton XX75 2016.  Was going to buy Woodsman 125gr. or 150gr.  27"draw.  Hunting whitetail deer.  Any suggestions would be great.

Since you're actually drawing 47 pounds with a 27" draw, if your arrow is cut to 28", then I'd suggest the Woodsman 125. If they don't fly well, you might want to try a 1916.

Try Razorcaps.  They have a replaceable furrel in the inside of the blade cartridge to make them anything from 100 to 200.  I use the 125s for turkeys, 150s for deer.  I'm going to get some 175s to help spine my stiff carbons.  They are like Woodsmans.

I shoot a 52# and (with a different set of limbs) 58# curve and I've found this in tuning.....

1" of arrow length is = +/- 50gr. tip weight.  I'd pick whichever head I wanted to shoot (tip weight) and tune my arrow to that.

Good luck.

do a little experimentation . I shortened some 1916s to 29 inches (41 @28) and kept the same 85 grain tips. Was shooting ok but last night I dropped some 125 grain tips and it's incredible. great flight and my groups are really tight. HUGE difference in consistency and accuracy.

Even with lighter draw weights front loading an arrow works.Perfect flight with a weight forward arrow equals fantastic penetration.

I think your 2016 will work fine with 150 grain heads.
