Broadheads for GrizzlyStick Alaskans

Hello everyone.  This is my first post, but I have been reading a lot of the past threads over the last week or so.  You have a great group here.  

I bowhunted a long time than family and work got in the way and I am just getting back into it.  I am hunting a John Shulz 65# Trophy Hunter.

I decided to upgrade my old cedar and aluminum shafts to something heavier.  I went with the Grizzlystick Alaskans, which fly amazingly well with both 125 and 175 field points.  I have read the Ashby reports and agree with many of his principals.  The one item I am not completely sold on is a single bevel advantage over a double bevel, but that can be another discussion.  

The trouble I'm having is finding many screw-in, double-bevel broadhead options that have a ferrule that is 11/32 or greater, which is what my shaft diameter is on the finished Alaskans.  Ashby's thoughts on the ferrule needing to be greater than, or equal to, the shaft diameter does make a lot of sense.  Hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction.  Thanks in advance.

I shot alaskans for a few years.  You can load up the front end like you already have.  Are you using the brass inserts?  Most trad guys shoot glue on heads like Muzzy, snuffer, wensel etc. and then use an 11/32 adapter glued into the head.  (I use JB Weld).

Have a look at the Muzzy Phantoms if you just want to screw a blade in and go.  I'm told they are a solid head and sharp out of the package.

I'm using 150 grain grizzleys this year.  Ron from KME sharpeners sells pre sharpened heads that you can shave with...seriously.

I like to load mine up front with 300Xtreem.

Anybody have any experance with the Abowyer brown bear,wapiti or whitetail?  I have a 50# @ 28'' thunder horn hear stoper longbow. I am moving to Idaho next year if things go well and would like to set it up for elk.  I've been thinking about grizzly alaskan's for shafts, any thoughts or recomendations? I'm also learning to shoot a long bow, I've been shooting a compound for the last 10 years and a 55# ben person recuve but I've noticed the longbow is a different animal.

No cut just complete pass through on this guy. He made it about 75yrds and piled up.

Nice bear! What weight is the bow and what head did you use?

The Zwicky No Mercy heads are bigger than 11/32, fly great and come in both single and double bevel. They weight 175gr on my scale then I add 50gr to the brass insert and a 29" arrow ends up at around 675gr.

I am shooting grizzlystiks with 150 grain Wenzel Woodsman screw in this year. They are larger than the shaft. This is a new set up for me shooting a 50# Kota Killum. I have yet to take any game, but they fly great. 648 grain total weight. I get 7" of penatration into a new yellow jacket broadhead target. I haven't had much noise from them like some people have said in other posts. I bought some Zwicky No Mercy single bevel 165 grain screw in to play with and check out the single bevel aspect. Haven't had a chance to get them out, but they are larger than the 11/32 shaft too. Remember Grizzlystiks have to be cut off from the front end when tuning. Good luck.
