Snuffer??'s
« on: August 20, 2009, 09:18:00 AM »
I see that Snuffers are available in a 185Grain screw-in, but can't find a source to buy from? Anybody know where to get these. I saw them at a Bass Pro last week in Mackinac City, Mi and thought about getting some. My other question, I'm shooting about 54# from my Zipper Sxt, with 29 1/2" AD Hammerhead TradLites, with a  the 185 Snuffer (1 15/32" dia.) and total arrow weight of 580 grains can I expect good penetration? Thanks

Keep it out of the shoulder blade and it should be fine.

Our specs are almost identical. I shoot a 54# Morrison Shawnee recurve with 29.5" AD Trad Lites. My tips are 100 grain brass insert, 75 grain steel BH insert, and 125 glue-on Snuffer. I have 300 up front for a total weight of 620 grains. They fly like darts. I'm not at all concerned about penetration.

Mike, 620 out of a 54# Shawnee? I wouldn't worry about penetration either brother. You may have trouble pushing them rocks on the off side of the deer but everything between you and those rocks ought to get ventilated.

I'll have one of my snuffers from Dan Quillian in one of my quivers this year...hope to get it bloody and sip a scotch in "Dan the Man's" memory. Snuffer = big, gaping, bloody, hole....mmmm, freezer full of goodness.

Most I've seen for sale is 170.  If I were you I would email or call Magnus or Mike Sohm of Magnus and ask them.  Odds are pretty good they would point you to a supplier or they would simply sell you them over the phone.  Good people to deal with.

I checked Bass Pro website and almost all the links from Magnus and can't find the 185 grain screw in. Everyone list the 125 and some 145 or 160 glue on. 3R and KKing don't list the big screw-in either.

I'd guess it's just a 160 glue-on with an 25gr adapter.

I'll drink one with you when the time comes. Love those snuffer bloodtrails.

JC, I'm still shooting some of my Quillian Snuffers too(he got me hooked), but I broke down and ordered some new ones. Some of my 160's are now 145's from sharpening. BIG HOLES!. When Dan got complete penetration quartering on a record-class grizzly bear, I was convinced!
