Anybody Ever Use Gator Hide for Bow Handle?
« on: August 20, 2009, 06:41:00 PM »
I seem to have run into a nice supply of gator hide. Trying to think of things to do with it all. I know beaver tail looks awesome on the grip. Anybody ever use alligator hide for the grip leather?  If yes, how is it to work with?  Seems it should be durable? Thanks for any comments or other ideas!

I was also thinking of tanning one of the hind legs on my big gator and making a back quiver? That'd look pretty cool?

Benjy, has a neat looking back quiver made of gator hide.I think he used the belly skin, it is soft as can be.

i have used it and it works well.Just gotta pick the right part of the skin for best results. The legs actually work very well for grips.I have also made back quivers that turned out very sharp and also tough.Gator is excellant for armguards and also a cool strikeplate on primitive style bows.

Thank you for sharing your pictures and ideas! The bow handle grip looks great and the quiver is awesome. Benjy also has a beautiful gator hide quiver. I really like the knife sheaths as well.

Geno, what is a "back hat band"?
