I shoot carbon arras and I like to hunt with 250 grain heads. I have a mess of 100 grain inserts and when I match em up with 125 grain heads I come up 25 or so grains short. I noticed today that the 100 grain inserts have a drilled out hole in them and a 16 penny nail fits real nice in that hole.
Here's what I did...
First off you need next to nothing to do this. Vice grips, hacksaw and a file will get it done. If you have a bench vice and bench grinder it will make it easier. If you have a scale that weighs in grains you can get pretty precise. If not I'll show you how to get real close to 125 grains in a minute. That's all you need for tools. For supplies you need a few 16 penny nails, a sharpie to mark em, and some kinda glue.
First thing, cut the tip off the nail. This will allow you to put the nail into the insert.
I was not sure where to start so I put the nail all the way into the insert and marked it.
I cut it there and weighed it. It was pretty close. I hit it with the grinder and weighed it till it was where I wanted it.
To put it together I used Gorilla Glue. I really like the Loc Tite Sumo glue too. After thinking about it JB Weld would proly work best.
I put a little on something I am throwing away and tear off the cotton on one end of a cu-tip.
Use this to put glue in the insert where you are adding the steel. You will have to push the steel into the insert a coouple times to get any air out. It is a tight fit.
I then took an old box, cut some small slits in it and used it as my drying rack.
Here is what I come up with.
