New Limbs........
« on: August 25, 2009, 06:16:00 AM »
I currently have a Bob Lee 54# @ 27.5" 58" take down recurve.

I was looking to purchase new limbs 4 it. When I called BL and told them I wanted somewhere around a 60#-64# to shoot a 2219 785gr arrow that I have, but is too heavy for my current set up. (I wanted the arrow for elk/bear)

They stated they havnt seen many people shoot a bow that weight well. So I was thinking, whats the deal with that? There are many people out there shooting heavier bows for dangerous/bigger game.

I was crunching #'s and I figured thats the weight i'd need to shoot the 2219's 785g at around 160-165 fps.

Any insight would be helpful on the bow weight/velocity im looking for

Thanks

D

There's so much that goes into getting a particular arrow to fly that it's nearly impossible to touch on them all.  That being said I don't think 60-64# would be enough bow for that stiff of an arrow.  The lightest bow I can get a 2219 to fly out of it my 76# recurve.  Like I said, there's a lot that goes into getting any arrow to fly good.

I actually ran #'s through a spine chart program and it looks like it would work..... I have 325 up front. My question would be is the 60-64# enough to drive to 165fps...

I shoot a 63# Wes Wallace and get 170 fps with 732 gr arrow. I have 265 gr up front on a 32" 2219 shaft. I have a long draw though and shoot a 64" bow. The Bob Lee I have is also 64" and shoots at 67#. It seems to be a little more sensitive to tuning and brace height. I had to put a very thin side plate on it to try and bring the the large diameter shaft closer to center. I think the BL is a nice bow and shoots fast, but in my hands its harder to tune. You may get better arrow flight and still reach your speed goal of close to 165fps if you change from FF to a B-50 string. I had to do that as well. I love 2219 shafts and do what ever it takes to get them to fly, including building my own bow that shoots them at 60#. But again, I have a long draw. Mike
