String Creep / Brace Height
« on: August 25, 2009, 09:10:00 PM »
I'll try to explain the best I can, so please bare with me (THANKS) Actually two problems.

I have been shooting the same string for 7-8 months now 55 3/4. I have noticed some string creep and brace height change. Does not stay a tad over 7 3/4 which I prefer. I decided it was time for a new string (guessing here). The strings I have for my 60" one piece Tip are 55 3/4 .

Being it is a new string and going to stretch I wanted to set the BH @ 8 . I'm having a Dickens of a time stringing the bow. I'm using a Selway recurve stringer. Guessing here again stringer to long too short ? I have noticed I have allot of excess string (stringer) that I have to step on and pull up to try and brace / slide the string up to the tip. If this helps I can hold the bow at my waist and have the stringer string touch the floor. Make sense ?

Any help suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thank You

Either shorten the stringer, or use two feet spread rather widely rather than one to hold the stringer string to the floor when you string the bow.  Putting two feet on the stringer some distance apart has the effect of shortening the stringer.

That being said, I've never liked the rubber pad on the limb type stringer.  I've always preferred a pocket for each limb tip.  Good luck.

Ditto to what Orion said. When you spread your legs and step on your stringer at two places your shorting the stringer length and widing the gap angle where it meets your limb tips at if that makes sense. And I gotta agree with him I hate the rubber pad on the limb type and much prefer the limb pocket style!

strings will creep AND stretch..one is recoverable when teh bow is unstrung..the other is not and you'll have to twist the string up from time to time.

Eventually a synthetic string like d97 will settle down and move very little if you shoot often and leave it strung all the time.   B50 will just keep on creeping!!!!
