HI,
Just wanted a report from everyone that made up their own scentkiller with baking soda and peroxide last year ? Did it work ? I cannot remember the ratio of soda to peroxide and how to mix it without causing a chemical reaction ?

I used it last year, with great success.
I have used it for eliminating smells around the house, and it worked there also.
I will find the recipe and forward it on to you.

Here is my formula,
16oz of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide
16oz of distilled water
1/4 cup baking soda
1oz. unscented liquid soap.
Mix all ingredients (except soap) in a one gallon plastic jug and shake vigorously. Once it has all settled then add the soap slowly mixing to avoid too much sudsing.

THANKS ! Is the peroxide @ 3% what most stores sell or is it a different % ? What does the soap do ? What brand of liquid soap do you use and where do you get it ?

Word of caution put the cap on very loosely on the bottle for at least the first 48 hours! The peroxide and baking soda will react and cause pressure to build up and possibly make your container explode!

3% is the standard peroxide, you buy at all stores. The soap helps the spray stick to surfaces.

Great advice adeeden!
Also, the liquid soap I use is a generic brand from the local grocery store.
You can make a gallon of this mixture for just a few bucks! Much cheaper then the "brand name" stuff, and works just as good or better!
I have noticed, that if I use too much baking soda, it will leave a slight residue, on my clothes, however it washes right off.

I found the generic brand of peroxide has a scent to it that I could smell whenever I used it. I found out they add a chemical to keep the peroxide from turning to straight water which it can. This has a strong smell to it. I went to the local spa store and bought a bottle of peroxide shock treatment. This stuff is way stronger than the 3% stuff so you have to dilute it with distilled water but at least this stuff doesn't stink. Oh by the way it's best to use distilled water when making this stuff so you don't get a chlorine smell. Smells we might not notice are strong to a deer.

next time your dog gets sprayed by a skunk ,mix up a batch and using the entire batch work into the fur and shampoo with it ....... leave it on 10 minutes and rinse off .

guess what ? ........... the skunk smell is gone !!!! ......... I have let my dogs sleep in the house the same day as being sprayed !!!

I have used it. . . with some success- HOWEVER- I have guys tell me that the Hydro-peroxide fades clothes. Not sure. . . ??

Been using the mix for 3 years now and it works well. I mix a fresh batch at the start of the season and store it in a washed-out white bleach jug to keep any light off of the mixture. For the soap I use the unscented type that I shower with prior to hunting and filtered water. Cheap and effective it also works on boots and the soles of shoes to keep scent down and as an added bonus you can use it on pet stains and carpets to neutralize the odors.

Works great - but does leave a residue from the baking soda. Nothing that hurts.

Been using the stor bought version for over 15 yrs now and it leaves a residue too. I am sure it is the soda in the formula. By the end of bow season my ball cap is almost white and stiff as a board ! You can hunt in the rain or spray it off with water and it will get rid of the residue and stiffness. Going to try this homebrew this year.

Sorry the pa adress is not working.
The formula is the same as onions except the peroxide comes from a pool supply store.
It is 27% and must be diluted to 3% to use it!
But it has no odor and none of the added chemicals
