Another skinny string, old bow story

Just picked up a skinny string for my wing slim line pro that is 45# @ 28, and I draw to 29". It is 6 stand 450+ that is padded to 12 strand at the loops. With my old string I was shooting 2016 cut to a hair over 30.5" with 175 grains up from. Now the arrows are much too weak with 125 grains up front. I don't know if cutting them down will get them where I need them, but I've got some beeman mfx classic 500 arrows that are pretty close when cut to 30 inches with a 75 grain hit insert and 125 grain tip.

I put some yarn around the ends and a little in the string for a homemade bowhush/hushpuppy silencer, and the setup if very quiet. The bow is really spitting the arrows out and the vibration that was in the limbs after the shot with the old string is now gone. I guess that was from the string stretching and relaxing(?). I'm really pleased with the performance of the new string. I haven't seen any problems at the tips, and hopefully this setup will hold up. I can tell you, with the new strings I have a much better appreciation for the older bows.

Sometimes a man has to take a chance, and not listen to baseless rumors.  This is what it takes to learn about low stretch and old bows.  We can't be sure they don't work, until we prove they don't, and in the interim, we may find they work very well on our old friends.

Just be cautionary when trying them, and make sure there are no cracks already started anywhere, and the string notch is smooth, with no edges around its perimeter.  So far I have somewhere over 1500 shots through my 67 Necedah with the 450+.  Time will tell, but it's like a new bow....and you remember how much of a B50 man I have been.  Old dogs.

It is remarkable for how long we (me too) bought into the kitchen science about modern strings wrecking old bows.
With skinny strings those old bows really let loose.
