I bought a beautiful Treadway Black Swamp in March and have been trying to shoot it well since then without a lot of consist success.  I had not been real happy with my shooting and had decided to go back to the old trusty Black Widow recurve for hunting season.

So when I was at the North Georgia shoot at JC's place in May I took out the Black Widow for the first time in two months and embarassed myself badly.  The next day I shot the Treadway and was noticeably improved.  Go figure.

I got back home and decided that I could not keep switching back and forth or I would eventually just go crazy.  I started reading everything I could about shooting form which I usually avoid like the plague for fear of getting more confused then usual.  Finally, I started reading some information about bow quivers...

I have never been a bow quiver fan, but as I was reading some posts on tradgang about bowquivers and tuning it occured to me that one of the things that I was not so happy with about shooting a longbow was the relatively low mass weight of the bow as compared to a recurve.  I wondered if adding a bowquiver could help in any way.  Long story short, it did with amazing results.

I borrowed a 3 Rivers Mini Boa from a friend to try at the TBOF Fall Rendezvous and strapped it on to see what would happen.  The first 15 target round was ok, but by the second 15 target round in the afternoon I was shooting "lights out."

I tried to buy the quiver from my friend, but he just laughed at me.  The next night when I got home I ordered two.  I have been very happy with my shooting ever since.  The total mass weight of the longbow with the quiver on it is much more like what I was accustomed to with my Widows.  I have also found that I can switch back and forth from the Treadway to the Widow with much greater consistency and success than I could before.

If you have switched to a longbow and are struggling or if you think you "just can't shoot a longbow" it might be worth your time to try to add some mass weight.  I would never have imagined the difference that it has made for me.

I shoot better with a heavier bow. I prefer 3 ps take downs for that reason and I use a Great Northern bow quiver 90% of the time I hunt. I usually shoot the off season without the quiver and about a month before season I start shooting with the quiver on.

I was so used to the weight of my Widow Recurve as well, that when I got my longbows i had to put on a bow quiver. Its filled with (5) 735 gr arrows. It helps as well. Never thought to post it for some reason, So thanks for posting your find.
