Airlines and Packing Advice
« on: August 31, 2009, 02:31:00 AM »
Im flying to Oregon in Dec for a 2 week Elk hunt then on my return trip stoping in Tenn to hunt black bear (its cheaper to fly there than to fly back to bama then drive... go figure), Im so exicited this is gonna be a great year. I am going to try and get by with just one checked bag so i can bring a cooler back from oregon if i Get lucky.

So what do i need to know about bringing back a cooler?

Im going to ship my bow and arrows out a week early.

Carry as much as possible in my carry on.

Should i use a large Duffel or a Big hard suitcase? (can you still use a footlocker?)

Things that i dont need for Elk hunting are being brought up to meet me at Knoxville when i land by my father.

Im going to try and go as light as possible and leave out some of the stuff that i never pull out of my pack.

I NEED ANY ADVICE THAT YOU GUYS HAVE!!!
Only forgiveness will finally end this,

I fly in 8 days to hunt with my father.  I went to the airline's web page and checked out baggage info.

I can have 1 carry on and one checked bag.  the carry on has to be no bigger than a certain size and the weight has to meet requirements.  Same thing with the checked bag except it can be slightly bigger and heavier than the carry on. My suitcase meets the size requirements but isn't long enough corner to corner to stash any arrows(30 1/4").

Anything extra or if checked or the carry on didn't comply extra charges would apply.  As an example my long bow might weigh a pound and a half and it is packed in a pvc tube.  Toatal weight maybe 4 pounds.  The airline would happily let me check it at an additional charge.  The only problem was it was the same price as another seat for a person.  I thought that was ridiculas for a 4 pound item so i mailed it along with some other stuff ahead of time.

They had a criteria of leangth + width + circumfrence to see if the bag's size was ok.  Your airline may have something like this to check out.
